WHAT IS A PODCAST OR A DIGITAL SHOW?
A podcast is a digital show is a podcast. Both are names for a pre-recorded audio program posted online made available for downloading to personal computers and/or mobile devices. Fun fact/rumor: the term "podcast" originated from a slang term associated with the Apple iPod mobile music device.
HOW DO I FIND, DOWNLOAD AND/OR SUBSCRIBE TO PODCASTS?
You can typically download podcasts through a program's website download link and/or through the Apple iTunes music store link. Each Plop List entry includes links to the podcast main website and the iTunes podcast information website (if available). Podcasts offer one-time downloads, subscriptions (continual/automatic downloads when there are new episodes) and/or online streaming of live recordings of programs. Some programs also offer direct mobile applications (Apple / Android) for mobile downloads.
ARE VIDEO PODCASTS INCLUDED ON THE PLOP LIST?
Yes, The Plop List includes podcasts with video options, as well. While typically audio-only, the digital world doesn't want to be put in a box. Recently, many podcasts producers are also including the option of video recordings of their programs. The Plop List includes a "Video" Category noting all programs with video options.
WHAT TYPE OF PODCASTS DOES THE PLOP LIST LIST?
Comedy is our focus here. There's a wide variety of what counts as comedy and we're open to it all.
HOW DOES THE PLOP LIST DETERMINE THE CATEGORIES FOR LISTINGS?
Our categories note what type of format the show uses (interviews with guests, videos, live audience recordings, etc.) as well as the topics typically discussed during the show. All of our listed podcasts, in some way or another, have funny stuff going on. WHERE DID THE NAME "PLOP LIST" COME FROM?
"Plop" is our homage to Comedian and podcast pied piper, Doug Benson. Benson created "plop" as his slang for the date he releases his podcast (Doug Loves Movies) for download. The podcast version of an album "dropping." Thus, podcasts be "plopping."
